Northeastern University - Seattle Opens New Graduate Campus in South Lake Union
One of WBBA’s newest members, Northeastern University – Seattle, recently announced its plans to open a graduate campus in the heart of South Lake Union in January 2013. Northeastern University, a top-tier, non-profit, private research university founded in Boston in 1898, has a century of leadership in building global partnerships. Its experiential learning program, the world’s largest and most innovative, includes more than 2,500 employers on seven continents.
Northeastern University – Seattle is Washington State’s first private research university. The Seattle Graduate Campus, featuring classrooms, community space and offices, will be located at 401 Terry Ave N., on the ground floor of the Institute of Systems Biology and across from Amazon.com.
The Campus is actively engaged in creating preliminary research collaboration discussions, in areas such as education, drug discovery, systems biology, health care delivery, global health and other front burner areas for our Seattle community.
The campus will also be providing graduate degrees aligned with industry in the region. Those programs are:
Science & Technology
Healthcare & Education
Policy & Administration
The graduate programs offered by Northeastern University–Seattle are designed to enable students to build their careers while maintaining their lives. The university’s blend of on-campus and online classes, flexible schedules, and frequent program starting dates enable students to pursue their professional goals without sacrificing personal needs and goals.
As one of the largest providers of online degrees among any brick-and-mortar universities in the country, Northeastern is experienced at using technology tools to create a learning environment for students and faculty that is highly connected and interactive, and enriched by digital content.
Our campus in South Lake Union provides students with face-to-face service and support, as well as the physical classrooms where students and faculty in our hybrid-learning degree programs meet for their on-campus course sessions.
The Seattle Campus is headed by Dean and CEO, Tayloe Washburn. Washburn, a nationally-recognized local attorney and former chair of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, is experienced in building partnerships between the public and private sectors. He has long advocated for expanded educational opportunities in Seattle to prepare the region’s workforce for the needs of the 21st century economy. In addition to serving on the Chamber board, Tayloe’s work in the Seattle area community includes serving on the chair of the boards of Seattle King County Economic Development Council, Schools First!, and the Washington Aerospace Partnership, having been appointed by Governor Chris Gregoire.
Dean Washburn and his Seattle Campus team look forward to working with WBBA members in coming months and years in helping address their workforce training and retention needs, and in exploring possible areas forresearch collaboration.
