WBBA addresses common commercialization challenges.
Management expertise and access to capital represent major hurdles for member organizations. We've had a number of successes in our commercialization initiatives to address this challenge.
Townsend and Townsend and Crew LLP recently invested as sponsors in WBBA’s Life Science Startup website and commercialization initiatives. Life Science Startup is an integrated online resource for early-stage life science entrepreneurs in Washington state that has been bolstered by the support of WBBA member Townsend and Townsend and Crew LLP. Townsend has been recognized by leading U.S. and international publications as one of the leading intellectual property law firms and was recently recognized as a leading patent law firm in Intellectual Property Today's survey "2009 Top Patent Firms." With the support of Townsend, WBBA has you covered with up-to-date community-contributed information on company formation, raising money, and needed advice found on Lifesciencestartup.com.
Stewart Parker, WBBA’s recently appointed commercialization consultant, is an experienced life science executive who understands first hand the challenges of growing successful companies. Stewart brings a wealth of knowledge on topics such as strategic partnering and capital formation, a vast venture capital and Wall Street network and a practical approach to building and sustaining life science companies. Stewart is available now to offer her advice on critical issues affecting WBBA member organizations. You can schedule a meeting with her by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
WINGS, The Washington Medical Technology Angel Network, formed in 2009 as a joint initiative of WBBA and the medical technology community, and was officially incorporated in January 2010. There is already great momentum...
The next WINGS investor meeting is scheduled for June 21 and two more planned later this year. For more information visit the WBBA website and find WINGS under Commercialization.
WBBA’s Venture Investment and Partnering Forums provide another opportunity to match investors with researchers and companies who need capital to bring their ideas to fruition. WBBA brings investors and strategic partners such as SR One, The Merck Group and Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation to Seattle for one-on-one meetings with promising life science companies. Two VIP forums, with X/Seed Capital and OrbiMed, have been held in 2010. Additional 2010 sessions will be announced soon. To receive Commercialization announcements, update your subscription preferences by editing your Member Profile on the WBBA website.
Commercialization is about inspiring quality management – management that succeeds in its quest for capital and a high quality work force that drives innovation. No better example can be found than Dendreon Corporation. Our sincere congratulations go out to Dr. Mitchell Gold and his colleagues for their perseverance in developing Provenge, a breakthrough vaccine that activates patients’ immune systems to attack tumors in advanced cases of prostate cancer. Dendreon’s success provides inspiration to thousands of men and women who are seeking life-changing discoveries in laboratories across our state.
